Labour Party Pakistan has demanded of the government to abandon the privatisation plan of Water and Sanitation Authority (Wasa) in the larger interest of general public. If the government did not change its policy for privatisation of Wasa, the Labour Party will launch countrywide agitation and held protest demonstrations against the proposed move, said the Chief of Labour Party Pakistan, Farooq Tariq, while addressing a meeting held under the auspices of Lahore Water Action Committee at Shalimar Town on Saturday.
He said that drinking water was the right of every citizen and privatisation of Wasa will deprive the public of their basic need. He said the privatisation policy of the government has created a wide difference between the rich and the poor and added that it is aimed at benefiting the capitalists. The privatisation of Wasa will directly affect the poor man and will add to the difficulties of commoners who are already facing tough time because of high rise in prices of essential commodities, Tariq observed.Other speakers who addressed on the occasion included Chairman National Trade Union Federation Mohammad Yousuf Baloch, Rustam-Sohrab Factory Workers Union President Moeen Nawaz Punoon and others.
