The Federal Minster for Interior Aftab Ahmed Khan Sherpao inaugurated Machine Readable Passport (MRP) Office in London. While speaking on the occasion, Aftab Sherpao said the economic development initiatives over the past few years have slowly but surely put us again on the path of progress. An integrated plan has been put in place, which focuses on the tripartite elements of growth, namely, development of infrastructure, human resource development and harnessing of technology for economic development of Pakistan.
As an aftermath of the 9/11, the international community become more conscious about the unholy unity of falsified travel documents, human trafficking and trans-border terrorism. More emphasis is therefore being laid by the member states on adoption of international standards provided by the International Civil Aviation Organisation (ICAO) for issuance of Machine Readable Travel Documents (MRTD). On this occasion, Brigadier Mian Khalid Habib (Retd), Director General Immigration & Passports also explained salient features of the MRPs that include enhanced security features and credibility, convenience to the passport holders and international recognition.
