The intervention of the Commerce Ministry has been sought to disallow use of funds from the Export Development Fund (EDF) for individual gains. In a letter sent to the Commerce Secretary, former presidents, life members and members of the managing committee (belonging to Businessmen Forum (BF) of the Federation of Pakistan Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FPCCI) have drawn his attention towards the injudicious sanction of funds from the EDF by the Export Promotion Bureau (EPB).
They have pointed out that the EDF is governed and guided by notified rules which provide exception to use of funds other than for approved delegations and exhibitions promoting trade of the country.
No amount should be reimbursed to individuals on their personal visits on fabricated claims and personal favours to such persons by EPB functionaries should be immediately stopped.
Former FPCCI vice-president Haroon Rasheed had claimed subsidies under the garb of personal visits to USA, Canada, and UK during the current year, they said, adding neither he is an industrialist nor has any business with USA, Canada, and UK in the form of inward or outward trade.
The Business Forum has also questioned the nomination of Haroon Rasheed, not a member of FPCCI managing committee, as chairman, FPCCI standing committee on international affairs, exhibitions and trade delegations.
In a separate letter sent to EPB Chairman Tariq Ikram, the Businessmen Forum has prayed that since Haroon Rasheed holds no credentials, he should not be recognised as chairman of the FPCCI standing committee as a person, who is not a member of the FPCCI managing committee cannot be appointed as chairman of standing committee of the FPCCI. Further providing facilities to him would not be in public interest.
