The Accountability Court Rawalpindi has awarded ten days physical remand to Muhammad Amin Farooqi, ex-Registrar Supreme Court, Nadeem Anwar, president of Islamic Investment Bank, and Chief Operating Officer, Javed Iqbal in Rs 640 million embezzlement case and handed them over to the custody of National Accountability Bureau (NAB) after adjourning the hearing till June 14. The judge of the Accountability Court, Sagheer Ahmed Qadri, took serious note of the absence of other co-accused in the embezzlement case and directed the prosecution and investigation officer to inform the court about absence of the co accused during hearing.
Earlier, NAB Prosecutor Tanveerul Islam and Investigation Officer, Abdul Rehman Cheema presented Muhammad Amin Farooqi in the court on the charges of embezzlement of Rs 640 million. Prosecution after reading the charges demanded 15 days physical remand of the accused, which was opposed by the defence counsel. After hearing arguments the court awarded 10 days physical remand of the accused.
It may be recalled that Islamabad Capital Territory Police on Thursday arrested Amin Farooqi, ex-registrar of the Supreme Court, and 13 others on the order of the Chief Justice of Pakistan, Justice Nazim Hussain Siddiqui in a case of misappropriating government funds through Islamic Investment Bank. Police arrest Farooqi from the Supreme Court premises.
