The government is taking all necessary steps to stabilise the price of sugar and protect the interest of consumers as well as of growers. Federal Food, Agriculture and Livestock Minister Sikandar Hayat Bosan stated this, while talking to a delegation of Pakistan Sugar Mills Association (PSMA) here on Friday.
The minister expressed concern on the relatively high price of sugar and asked the PSMA to bring down the sugar price voluntarily as the existing stock of sugar in the country did not justify the present price hike.
Appreciating the steps taken by the government to control price of sugar, PSMA Chairman Zaka Ashraf said that only sugar hoarders were responsible for the increase in price and it is imperative to control it.
The minister assured the delegation that the government would extend all-possible assistance to those associated with the sugar industry and take steps to provide them relief, so as to stabilise sugar price for the common man.
