The KESC, PTCL and the Sui Gas bills are all received by the consumers one after another of the 20th of every month, and last date for payment is from the 26th to 30th, which is considered by some as not-so-well-paced. One can suffer the inconvenience of receiving the bills like this, but certainly not the ordeal of standing in long 'queues' at a bank in blazing sun.
There is one small branch of HBL in Block-18, Gulistan-e-Jauhar, Karachi, and opposite to it in Block-17, there is a branch of Bank Al-Habib Ltd, which is providing all banking facilities, but does not take utility bills, although the branches of many other private banks like Bolan Bank and Askari Bank are taking the utility bills. The branch of bank Al-Habib in Block-17, Gulistan-e-Jauhar, has no excuse of short space or staff.
It is a real pity that the senior citizens in our society are said to be given due respect and facilities to make their lives easier. But when it comes to paying the utility bills at banks or post offices, all this appears more of a lip service. Let us be sincere in what we say or feel about the senior citizens and always mean it.
The Managing Director, Bank Al-Habib, is requested to look into the matter and issue orders to their branch in Gulistan-e-Jauhar, to start taking all utility bills to reduce pressure at the only HBL branch in Gulistan-e-Jauhar in the larger public interest. The Governor of the State Bank is also requested to issue a directive to all the branches of private banks to accept the utility bills for the convenience of the public, without any pretext. This will be a great favour to the consumers of the utilities.
