The Higher Education Commission (HEC) has undertaken a project to upgrade and modify the laboratories of department of Electronic Engineering, NED University of Engineering and Technology, Karachi. The project will be completed in 2 years with a cost of Rs38 million. Under the project, state of the art laboratories will be established and the existing laboratory facilities will be consolidated expanded and modernised.
NED University has at present four faculties with the intake of about 1000 students per year in the teaching departments of Faculty of Civil Engineering and Architecture, Faculty of Mechanical and Manufacturing Engineering, Faculty of Electrical and Computer Engineering and Faculty of Science, Technology and Humanities.
The department of electronic engineering was established in 1999. Since then 5 different laboratories have been added. However, due to shortage of funds, some areas of modern science were left untouched.
The project envisages provision of modern laboratory equipment, instruments and components. Although, the equipment to be procured under project will be available for research work but the main emphasis will be on training and routine practical work at undergraduate level.
Further, a telecommunication laboratory, project laboratory and electronic workshop will be added.
The main purpose for the establishment of these laboratories is to provide hands-on-training to undergraduate and postgraduate students by using state-of-the-art tools (hardware and software tools), and equipment.
The project also envisages provision of teaching and training facilities to undergraduate students and training and research facilities to postgraduate students. For this one post of associate professor, two posts of assistant professors and two posts of laboratory technicians will be created.
On implementation of this project, practical training would be provided in the fields of Microwave Technology, Antenna Technology, Radar Technology, Telephone Exchange Technology, Transmitting and Receiving Technology, Multimedia Technology, Mobile Communications, Fibre Optic Communications and Laser and Optoelectronic Technology.
