World Punjab Congress (WPC) Chairman Fakhar Zaman has returned to Pakistan after a week-long visit to India where he had gone for the launching ceremony of his book ' Punjab, Punjabi aur Punjabiat' and Novel ' Toon Key Mein'. According to WPC General Secretary, Aizaz Ahmad Azer, former Prime Minster of India Shri Inder Kumar Gujral has said that visa restriction between Indian and Pakistan should be minimised so that people to people contact could be strengthened.
Speaking in a programme organised by the WPC Indian Chapter in collaboration with the Punjab Academy Delhi, Gujral said that writers could play a vital role in uniting the people of both the countries. "We are having common culture and our heritage is common so we should make our best efforts to consolidate the cultural routes," he added.
Speaking on the occasion, chairman National Minorities Commission of India, Shri Tarlochan Singh spoke about the role of WPC in normalising the relations between the two countries.
He said the WPC efforts to promote Punjabi in West Punjab had yielded very good results and the people do not hesitate to love Punjab in that area.
Fakhar Zaman, on the occasion, said that author's commitment should be towards society instead of establishment. He said that progressive role of writers could bring notable changes in the social structure. The literature is that which is written in progressive thinking.
The resenting literature has always created a history in their writings, he added. He further said that dictatorial and democratic fascism has created a big gap between the people of both countries but now the efforts made by WPC has made the people of both the countries more responsible towards the situation. If visa restrictions are eased, there would be no power to stop the people meeting each other.
Eminent Hindi writer Shrik Kamleshwar also spoke on the occasion who said that Punjabi is a great language, which is spoken world-wide.
