Deputy Commander US Centcom Lt General Lance L Smith, currently on an official visit, called on Chief of General Staff of Pakistan Army Lt General Tariq Majid at the General Headquarters and the Minister for Interior, Aftab Ahmad Khan Sherpao in his office here, on Tuesday. During his meeting with the Chief of General Staff, he remained with him for some time and discussed matters of professional interest. Later, General L Smith called on Chief of Staff Pakistan Navy, Vice Admiral Farooq Rashid at Naval Headquarters and discussed matters of professional interest.
The US General also discussed matters of mutual interest with the Minister for Interior and lauded the efforts of government of Pakistan in re-building Afghanistan.
The General expressed his satisfaction on the ongoing co-operation between Afghanistan and Pakistan and termed Pakistan as an important ally of the USA.
He also briefed the Minister for Interior about their ongoing engagements in Afghanistan and expressed the hope that situation in Afghanistan would be soon conducive for the refugees to return.
The Minister for Interior assured the General that Pakistan is committed to the stability of Afghanistan and would do its utmost to the Afghanistan brethren and its re-building efforts.
