The Provincial Finance Minister, Sardar Husnain Dreshak, would present a tax-free Punjab Budget 2005-06 before the Punjab Assembly on Thursday (June 9). According to sources, the expected budget outlay will be of Rs 253 billion. This would represent an increase of Rs 73 billion, as in FY 2004-05 total budget outlay stood at Rs 180 billion.
The expected non-development fund allocation would be around Rs 195 billion as compared to Rs 141.89 billion in FY 2004-05, an increase of Rs 53.1 billion. Under the Provincial Finance Commission Award, Rs 80 billion would be divided among the 34 districts of the province, while Rs 30 billion would be allocated for making payment of salaries to employees. Moreover, for development budget Rs 55 billion have been allocated.
The budget would focus on four vital sectors: agriculture, education, health, and sanitation and water supply.
