Forty-six constituent colleges of University of Education will impart training of modern education technology to 25,000 students in Punjab during next two years, while number of students having higher education in teaching strategy would reach to 50,000 in next seven years. This was disclosed at a meeting held at Governor's House here on Wednesday regarding the future plan of the University of Education.
Governor Punjab, Lieutenant General Khalid Maqbool (Retd) presided over the meeting. Special Secretary Higher Education Nazir Saeed, Special Secretary Schools Imtiaz Ahmad Tajwar, vice-chancellor University of Education Dr Ghulam Mustafa Habib Ullah and others attended the meeting.
The vice-chancellor Dr Ghulam Mustafa Habib Ullah said that University of Education had set up regional centers in Lahore, Multan and Sargodha while these centres would also be set up in Attock, Dera Ghazi Khan, Ghakkar Mandi, Mianwali, Muzaffargarh, Vehari, Khanpur and Talagang, as no institute was imparting higher education in these cities at present.
He further said that center of excellence of the university is being set up at Raiwind-Manga road in Lahore in which smart class rooms, specialised language laboratory, E-learning and distant learning center would be established. Similarly, education would be provided at main campus of the university to be set up at Okara to the level of postgraduate in the disciplines of school management, administrative science and policy studies. Process to point out land for new main campus of the university is under final stages and estimated cost is Rs 1.58 billion.
Khalid expressed his satisfaction that 36 elementary teachers training colleges of the province had been made fully functional according to their capacity within two years of setting up of the University of Education.
The meeting decided that classes of computer science, art and design, natural sciences and English would also be initiated in Okara campus of the University of Education.
The governor also announced that heads of education department of all the government universities of the province would be given representation in board of studies of University of Education.
