The Water & Power Development Authority (Wapda) has commissioned four new double-circuit transmission lines of 220-kv during the current fiscal year in order to reinforce its transmission system. Wapda Chairman, Tariq Hamid told this while inaugurating 220-kv grid station at Bahawalpur and a Muzaffargarh-Bahawalpur transmission line. Talking on the occasion, he said that the commissioning of these transmission lines would help cater increased power needs as well as improve voltage profile as it would facilitate a stable power supply.
Yet another significant feature of these transmission lines is that they have provided an alternate source of power supply to these areas, Tariq Hamid added.
Earlier, the Wapda chief inaugurated 220-kv double circuit Muzaffargarh-Bahawalpur Transmission Line and associated 220-kv grid station at Bahawalpur.
The project worth Rs 1483 million aims at transmitting more electric power from Muzaffargarh Thermal Power Station to Bahawalpur and adjacent load centers. In addition, this project will also reduce line losses and help stabilise the existing power network.
The 109-km long power transmission line has been completed at a cost of Rs 730 million while the 220-kv grid station at Bahawalpur has been set up with Rs 753 million, as an integral part of this vital project.
