Although global soyabean production will rise in 2005/06, worldwide oilseed production is forecast to fall 4.1 million tonnes from the previous year to 276.9 million tonnes due to smaller cottonseed and rapeseed crops, the US Agriculture Department said on Friday. World cottonseed production is forecast to fall 5.2 million tonnes from 2004/05 due to fewer plantings and a decline in yield, the USDA said in its monthly World Agricultural Production report.
Cotton plantings will be down because of falling prices. Global cottonseed yields will tumble by 7 percent from the excellent yields reported in the previous year by the United States, India, Pakistan and Uzbekistan, the USDA said.
Rapeseed production globally is forecast to fall 4.9 million tonnes to 41.4 million in 2005/06, due mostly too poorer yields, the USDA said.
"Demand from the bodiless industry in Europe has been growing, but overall world demand was insufficient to keep prices up, and area is forecast to decline slightly," it added.
Global soyabean production, however, will rise 3.4 million tonnes to 219.7 million in 2005/06 despite little change in the area planted, it said.
