Rain will reach coffee farms in north Parana this week and Espirito Santo state will remain showery, but other areas will be dry for harvesting and no frost risk is seen, forecaster Somar predicted Monday. "Unstable weather and a cold front over south Brazil will cause downpours in producing areas of Parana (on Wednesday)," Somar said in a daily report.
The cold front will reach Sao Paulo state at the weekend and parts of Minas Gerais next week.
A polar air mass accompanying the cold front will be centred over Argentina and head into the Atlantic without reaching south Brazil, Somar said.
Temperatures won't fall below 9 Celsius (48 Fahrenheit) in Londrina, Parana state, it added.
Rain has delayed the robusta harvest in Espirito Santo, Brazil's main robusta, where 33 percent of the crop had been picked by June 6, against 44 percent a year ago, analysts Safras e Mercado said.
Arabica harvesting is still at an early stage with 8 percent of the crop picked, against 13 percent a year ago, Safras added.
The government estimated the 2005/06 crop at 32.5 million 60-kg bags, 16 percent smaller than the 38.6 million bags produced in 2004/05.
Private views are much higher with Swiss trader Volcafe putting the 2005/06 crop at 38.5 million bags, against 43.3 million bags in 2004/05.
