The wife of Punjab Governor Begum Rubina Khalid has urged upon philanthropists to come forward to ameliorate problems being faced by special children. During her visit to Punjab University Child Welfare Centre (CWC) here on Wednesday, she appreciated efforts of the vice-chancellor's wife Nayyer Arshad for the rehabilitation of special children.
She said it was their shared duty to make special children a normal member of the society. She hoped that in near future the center would be one of the leading rehabilitation centers of the country.
Begum Rubina said CWC has been providing the best facilities to the special children.
Nayyer Arshad thanked Begum Rubina Khalid for her visit to the center. She said the center had been working for rehabilitation of special children and socio-economic uplift of women and children of downtrodden section of the society.
Later, CWC Principal Ayesha Wajihullah said the CWC was established in 2003 with an aim to provide education and technical training to the special children. She said the center was extending teaching and training facilities to children suffering from speech problem, psychiatric illness, and visual as well as orthopedic problems.
'It also provides counselling and guidance services to the parents. The girl students are also being taught cutting, stitching, tailoring, sewing, etc, besides the religious education (Namaz, Nazra of the Holy Quran),' she added.
