Sindh Governor Dr Ishrat-ul-Ebad Khan has directed that work on housing scheme in Taisar Town for low income people must start from July 1. He asked the Board of Revenue, City Government and other concerned authorities to speed up the work without indulging in paper and office intricacies as the government wanted to complete the work on providing housing facilities on priority basis.
He was addressing a high level meeting held at the Governor House in which Taisar Town Housing scheme and progress achieved in the revival of Gulzar-e-Hijri Scheme-33 were reviewed.
Advisor to the Chief Minister Waseem Akhtar, Additional Chief Secretary Local Government, DCO Karachi, Member Board of Revenue and officials of water, electricity and other departments attended the meeting.
The Governor called for settlement of land matters between Board of Revenue and City Government within 10 days and directed the work on both schemes should synchronise with the proposed projects of establishment of new Towns near Northern bypass. It was also decided to appoint a separate Project Director for Scheme-33 in order to ensure co-ordinated and result-oriented activity and to speed up the pace of progress. Earlier, EDO Revenue was working as Project Director of the scheme.
DCO Fazlur Rehman briefed the Governor about pace of progress and informed that work on removal of encroachments was fast going on and some 300 acres of land had been vacated from encroachers. Work on second phase has also started from June 9 and encroachments setup in the corridors, government lands and roads were being removed. He said third phase for removal of encroachment would start from next month.
The Governor called for continuity of anti-encroachment drive without any pressure or discrimination. He directed once the encroachments were removed, the land freed from illegal occupation should be handed over to concerned Co-operative Housing Societies and departments.
He said the societies should be bound down to take steps for protecting their land from encroachment in future. He also issued directive for action against defaulting societies as per rules and regulations.
The Governor had an appraisal regarding progress in respect of water and electricity schemes in the area. The meeting was informed that on the Governor's directive, survey of work on water and sewerage schemes has been completed. According to details out of 101-mile long sewerage line, work on 55-mile long sewerage line still remained to be carried out while existing sewerage lines were in damaged condition. It was pointed out the project needed complete rehabilitation for which an expenditure of Rs 500 million has been estimated. Regarding electricity and gas, it was informed the concerned departments have been asked to submit their requirements of land for their installations. On their identification, the land would be included in the Master Plan.
It was stated that City Government has worked out the framework for a comprehensive master plan and pre-qualified consultants were working on futuristic plan, which they would make available in two months.
The DCO informed that internal plans of 133 Housing Societies were being included into the comprehensive master plan after consultation with the Gulzar-e-Hijri Co-operative Housing Societies Union. Earlier Project Director Malir Development Project Amirzada Kohati briefed the meeting about details regarding Taisar Town.
