At least four persons were injured and three vehicles torched in Karachi on Thursday after killing of three activists of Sunni Tehrik (ST), by unknown assailants on Wednesday night and Thursday morning. ST activists Faizul Hasan, 30, Muhammad Ashraf Qadri, 25 and Farid Qadri, 24 riding on a motorcycle were shot at Wednesday night by unknown armed men riding on Suzuki Cultus car.
Faizul and Ashraf died on the spot and Farid, who sustained bullet wounds shifted to Jinnah Hospital, Karachi.
Another ST worker Danish, 25 s/o Abdul Hameed was kidnapped on gunpoint by unidentified men from his residence at Baba-i-Urdu Road.
He was seriously injured with bullets and shifted to Civil Hospital, Karachi where he succumbed to death on Thursday.
This triggered violence in certain areas of the city, in which three minibuses were set on fire - two in New Karachi and one in Burns Road.
Four persons were injured in sniper firing in Garden and Ranchore Line areas. Aerial firing was also reported in New Karachi, Ranchore Line, Garden, Burns Road and Kharadar.
Namaz-e-Janaza of ST workers was offered in New Karachi, Burns Road and Kharadar.
Meanwhile, police surrounded ST head office at Ranchore Line on Thursday but the barricade was lifted two hours later after talks between ST Chief Abbas Qadri and authorities.
Activists of two rival groups Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) and ST exchanged fire in Ranchore Line, injuring three MQM activists. ST office was also ransacked.
