The Alliance for Restoration of Democracy (ARD) and Muttahida Majlis-e-Amal (MMA) would contest the forthcoming local government (LG) elections under joint strategy to face the Pakistan Muslim League (PML-Q) and its allied parties. PML (N) Central Finance Secretary and MNA Mohammad Pervaiz Malik disclosed this here on Thursday while addressing the party workers' meeting held in connection with Local Government Elections 2005.
Malik maintained the Opposition parties would not leave the field open to the 'Q-League' and its allies and they would contest the election on seat-to-seat adjustment formula and provide support to each other on every seat. They would never adopt a strategy which would benefit the ruling party," he added.
According to him, the Opposition was united to face the ruling party in a big way whether it was local government elections or the Provincial or National Assemblies' elections. They would bring a change through the ballot. However, if there were any rigging, the opposition parties would jointly launch a movement against the government and would not rest till the government went.
The people would not vote for the government-backed candidates and if they committed a mistake to vote them, there would be no remedy to their miseries and hardships in future, he added. Malik called for making public the cases of corruption and incompetence of local government functionaries and recovery of looted money through Ehtesab Bureau.
