Foreign Minister Khurshid M. Kasuri on Friday called for continued US engagement in support of a result-oriented dialogue between Pakistan and India. He was talking to Dr Stephen Krasner, Director for Policy Planning and Assistant Secretary of State in the US Department of State, who called on him here.
The just settlement of the Kashmir dispute was critical to the successful outcome of the ongoing dialogue, the minister stressed and added that the status quo was acceptable neither to Pakistan nor to the Kashmiri people.
Kasuri recalled his recent visit to the United States and his discussions with the US leadership during which it was agreed that Pakistan and the United States now had a unique relationship.
On Pakistan-Afghanistan relations, the foreign minister observed that the bilateral relationship had entered a new phase. He said Pakistan would continue to extend full support and co-operation to the government of President Hamid Karzai to strengthen peace and stability in Afghanistan.
Dr Stephen Krasner conveyed to Kasuri the good wishes of Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice. He underscored continued US support to the Pakistan-India dialogue process. He also stated that Pak-US relationship had now acquired a strategic dimension.
