The euro slid sharply versus the rupee in the open market on Friday, losing 90 paisa in a single day decline for buying and selling at Rs 72.30 and Rs 72.50, dealers said. The rupee managed to gain two paisa in relation to the dollar for buying and selling at 60.43 and 60.48, dealers said.
Dollars' supply eased in the interbank market, which helped the rupee recover slightly, they said. It seems that the rupee to retain its firmness despite higher demand for dollars for payments.
In the overseas markets, the dollar moved both ways in relation to the other major currencies, dealers said.
INTERBANK RATES: The rupee showed slight variation versus the dollar for buying and selling at 59.68 and 59.72, respectively.
OPEN MARKET RATES: The rupee managed to hold its overnight levels versus the greenback at 60.45 and 60.48, moneychangers said. The rupee also picked up 20 paisa against the euro for buying and selling at Rs 73.20 and Rs 73.40, respectively.

RUPEE IN LAHORE: The Pak rupee lost its worth by five-paisa in relation to the greenback in the local currency markets on Friday.
According to the currency dealers, the dollar witnessed marginal increase in its demand, which helped appreciation in its worth against the local currency. The dollar's trading commenced at overnight closing rates of Rs 60.50 and Rs 60.60 on buying and selling counters, respectively. However, with the increase in demand, its rate moved up and closed at Rs 60.55 and Rs 60.65 on buying and selling sides, respectively, the dealers added.
On the contrary, the local currency maintained its rising trend and further improved its worth against the pound sterling. The British pound was purchased at Rs 109.50 and was sold at Rs 110.00 as compared to Thursday's rates of Rs 109.80 and Rs 110.20, the dealers added.
RUPEE IN ISLAMABAD: The buying and selling rates of dollar against the rupee remained unchanged at the open currency markets of Islamabad and Rawalpindi on Friday.
The dollar opened at Rs 60.40 (buying) and Rs 60.50 (selling) in the morning session. It did not observe any further fluctuation in the evening session and closed at the same rates.
Pound sterling opened at Rs 109.50 (buying) and Rs 109.80 (selling) against the previous rate of Rs 110 (buying) and Rs 110.40 (selling). It did not observe any change in the second session and closed at Rs 109.50 (buying) and Rs 109.80.
