Senate Chairman Mohammedmian Soomro has called upon the investors, including Pakistani-Americans, to invest more in Pakistan, as lucrative prospects exist in various fields including dairy sector and tourism. He said this in his concluding remarks at the congressional reception, held at the Rayburn Building on the Capitol Hill, under the auspices of Pakistani American Congress (PAC), says a message received from Washington here on Saturday.
The senate chairman referred to the Bloomberg report, which had described Pakistan as the second fastest growing economy of Asia with Gross Domestic Product (GDP) at 8.4 percent for the last two years.
More investments would mean creation of more job opportunities, generation of economic activity and prosperity, he said, adding it was the time to consider and go for increased investments.
About matter of visas for Pakistani doctors and engineers, he said the government had taken it up with the concerned United States authorities.
To a question, Soomro stressed the need for "working together" for registering more and more improvement, adding, "accomplishments of Pakistan particularly those in the economic field were many, varied and encouraging."
Soomro said, " The national security remained Pakistan's top priority, because of nuclear capability. "Alhamdolillah, we are safe and secure. Peace initiative in the region is a positive sign."
He said the law and order situation was fairly good in Pakistan, it could be a problem in certain areas of the vast country.
He said the production side of the industry was showing encouraging signs, as the Pizza Hut chief visited Pakistan recently and disclosed that its Pakistani Company had made the second largest earnings during the ending year; while as per travel advisory, he was asked to avoid visit to the country.
The senate chairman drew attention of the participants to Pakistan's immense potential for development, saying: "Potential is there- we need to work together for the common good of Pakistan."
He eulogised the devoted work being done by the PAC and others in the service of Pakistani community, and said for achieving the best results it was imperative to put up common grounds.
He said community service and joining of mainstream political system was important, as pointed out by the US legislators in their remarks in the congressional reception.
Soomro said awareness about rules, procedures and law was vital need and "let's have a systematic working, let everybody abide by it, and the preference should be of national good."
Earlier, speaking as the chief guest at the annual Pak-US Friendship Summit-2005, Senate Chairman Mohammedmian Soomro said Pakistan today had a vibrant elected parliamentary system, which was fully functional and was taking roots to the advantage of the country.
The senate chairman said the elected houses at the Federal and Provincial levels in Pakistan were undertaking valuable legislative business and the task of people's uplift and welfare was deliberated upon and taken care of.
He said efforts were underway to set and leave behind worthy traditions of running of the elected legislatures, which had many highly learned members, acquainted with rich legal and parliamentary practices.
He further stated that the parliamentary committee system was getting strengthened with the passage of time, and was producing worthy results to the consolidation of the parliamentary system.
