Like all countries of the world, International Day against drug abuse and illicit trafficking was also observed in Pakistan on Sunday, June 26. The basic purpose of this day is to reiterate commitment to fight against this menace and create maximum awareness against drug abuse, which is seriously affecting population, particularly the youth.
Drug abuse is a serious and multifaceted problem which affects all aspects of any society. But in developing countries, it is more difficult to tackle this problem.
According to a survey, there are large number of addicts in Pakistan and majority of the edicts are in the age group of 15 to 35 years.
Of years back the number of heroin edicts was considered highest in the country but now the trend has changed.
Drug abusers try to run away from reality of life and want to like in the self created world. Lack of concern and interest even among immediate family members of these unfortunate addictors makes their recovery even more difficult.
Director General Anti-Narcotics Force (DG-ANF) Maj. General Nadeem Ahmed on International Narcotics Day while talking to a private TV channel said that the government as committed to eradicate poppy and all kind of drug across the country.
He said due to the better policies of anti-narcotic force 20 ton poppy was seized during the recent year.
The security was tightened and special wings have been deputed to tackle the menace of drug along the Afghan border, he added.
He said the anti-narcotics force is not, only eradicating poppy but also performing duty for rehabilitation and treatment of the drug addicted patients.
