Acting President Mohammadmian Somroo said on Monday that Pakistan would remain coherent to its economic policies to ensure the foreign investors that it was a safe and attractive place for their investment. He was talking to the Islamic Chamber of Commerce and Industry (ICCI) President Sheikh Saleh Bin Abdullah Kamel, who called on him here.
Shaikh Saleh was accompanied by ICCI secretary general Aqeel Al Jaseem, Federation of Pakistan Chambers of Commerce and Industry President Chaudhry Saeed, former FPCCI president Iftikhar Ali Malik, Businessmen Panel Chairman, Tariq Saeed and FPCCI vice president Zubair Malik.
Somroo appreciated the role of the ICCI and hoped that it would make great progress and emerge as an effective platform to give boost to investment and trade among the Muslim countries.
The acting president said Pakistan was ready to push forward the agenda of ICCI that would guarantee economic boost and quick industrialisation in Muslim countries besides helping them dealing with other important issues such as unemployment, poverty and hunger.
The visiting ICCI chief appreciated Pakistan's role as a leading Islamic country and extended all out support for its economic and social uplift. Sheikh Saleh said Pakistan has great role to play in making ICCI more effective body and in bringing Muslim countries at one forum for their progress and development.
He presented new vision of Zakat utilisation among all Muslim countries and promoted the idea of using Zakat fund for generation of employment and community-based development programmes and schemes. The ICCI chief also stressed the need of result-oriented discussions and meetings for promotion of trade and industrialisation, sharing of resources and promotion of tourism among Muslim countries.
Sheikh Saleh also held meetings with Minister for Privatisation Dr Abdul Hafeez Shaikh, Minister for Commerce Humayun Akhtar Khan, State minister for Commerce Hamid Yar Hiraj and discussed with them matters relating to their respective areas. He also held meeting with prominent businessman Sadaruddin Haswani to discuss potential for investment in Pakistan's hotel and tourism.
Shaikh Saleh and other members of ICCI delegation left Islamabad on Monday evening for Saudi Arabia after a 3-day visit. Prior to his departure, while talking to the FPCCI leaders the ICCI chief thanked the government of Pakistan, businessmen and industrialists community and the people for extending warm hospitality during his stay in Pakistan.
