Scientists stressed the need for adopting modern techniques of biotechnology by research scholars for increasing the food and nutrients production to meet the requirement of ever-growing human population in the world. This was the consensus of the scientists attending the five days training workshop on the "Biotechnology and Techniques" organised by the Institute of Biotechnology and Genetic Engineering University of Sindh, in collaboration with National Commission on Biotechnology Islamabad here on Monday.
During the inaugural session the main focus was on the understanding of the subject, and more productive research with the help of modern techniques for mitigating the suffering of society, major part of which faced hunger, disease and poverty.
The inaugural session of 5-day workshop was presided over by Vice Chancellor Sindh University Mazharul Haq Siddiqui while Vice Chancellor Sindh Agriculture University Tandojam Dr Bashir Ahmed Sheikh was the chief guest.
Speaking on the occasion Dr Bashir Ahmed Sheikh underlined the importance of the subject in modern time and added that our suffering was due to our failure in taking timely steps in development process of various important disciplines of science.
He said that after plummeting in many fields including Information Technology, we realised the need for the biotechnology in process development and that too when the world had already gone far enough in the field.
He said that in our country the professionals of Information Technology have realised that the Information Technology is not a fruitful business and they are now also looking to other sciences for better prospects.
He said that it is time to realise where we stand in the field of the biotechnology and what type of research has been done by scholars in our country, as compared to scholars of other parts of the world.
