The rice export to China would start from October of this year and more than 50,000 tons of Super Basmati rice are expected to be exported this year. This was stated by the former chairman of Rice Exporters Association of Pakistan (Reap) and chairman of Haji Razzaq Janoo Memorial Trust (HRJMT), Abdul Rahim Janoo, while speaking at a reception in his honour hosted by president of Iqra Educational and Welfare Trust Abdul Majeed Abdani at his residence here on late Monday night.
Rahim Janoo said that a Reap delegation would visit China next month, which would organise 'Biryani Festivals' in the different cities of China to introduce Pakistani rice in this country.
Pakistani rice export is expected to touch figure of 950 million dollars this year against 350 million dollars a few years back despite the declining of the rice production in the country, he said and added that all this was possible due to the tremendous efforts of members of the Reap. "We would get the target of 1 billion dollar rice export in 2006," he said.
Janoo deplored that the commercial secretaries in Pakistani missions abroad were appointed on political basis and they do not co-operate with the exporters for promotion of Pakistani exports.
On the other hand, the Indian exporters are given VIP status in their foreign missions. He said, 'the situation is improving during the present government, which is keen to promote Pakistani exports.' However, he demanded of the government to appoint professionals as commercial secretaries in foreign missions so that they could facilitate Pakistani exporters for the promotion of exports.
HRJMT SERVICES LAUDED: About the services of Razzaq Janoo Memorial Trust he said that more than 5,12,000 patients, suffering from eye diseases, have been provided medical treatment, including eye operation with laser technology, in the last six years.
"We have arranged many free medical camps in the different areas of the country, especially in rural areas, and committed to continue our services for providing medical treatment to the needy people not only within the country but also in Bangladesh," he said, adding that they have arranged many free medical camps in Dhaka, Memon Singh and other areas of Bangladesh.
Handoff S. Kailua, Yahata Pollen, Haji Massed Parked, Abdul Nadir Rajkotwala, Abdul Aziz Memon, Razzaq Sangani, Amin Kothawala, Anis Majeed, Younus Bakaser and A. K. Memon also spoke on the occasion and appreciated the services of Razzaq Janoo Memorial Trust, while a large number of businessmen attended the programme.
