Pakistan Muslim League (PML) Secretary General Mushahid Hussain Syed on Tuesday said the PML has become popular party at grass roots level and would win the forthcoming local bodies and general elections. Addressing a public gathering here, Senator Mushahid Hussain Syed said Muslim League was being reorganised and gaining popularity in all the provinces including NWFP.
PML Secretary General said federal government has given free hand to provincial government of Muttahida Majlis-e-Amal (MMA) in NWFP to carry out development work, he said adding the should also reciprocate the same gesture while accepting majority of PML in the federation.
He said local bodies elections this year and general election in 2007 would be held in a free and fair atmosphere and urged the NWFP government to hold the provincial elections in an orderly manner. Senator Mushahid said the people of NWFP had played a great role in Pakistan movement and opted a democratic way to become part of Pakistan.
Referring to forthcoming meeting of Organisation of Islamic Countries (OIC) Foreign Minister conference Senator Mushahid said OIC was being reorganised to represent Muslims in a better and effective manner.
He said PML has been playing an active role in projecting real image of Muslims and Islam and always projected the cause of subjugated Muslims through out the world.
Appreciating the role of district Swabi in Pakistan development, Senator Mushahid specially referred the name of Captain Sher Khan Shaheed Nishan-e-Haider, who belonged to Swabi, for his meritorious services for the nation.
Moreover, Federal Minister for Religious Affairs and Senior Vice President of PML, while addressing on this occasion said federal government has given free hand to the NWFP government to carry out development projects for welfare of the people of province.
The Minister said due to policies of President General Pervez Musharraf the image of Pakistan has developed and improved in the comity of nations. He said present government took necessary measures to defend and protect the "Madaris" (religious institutions) as they were playing an important role in the promotion of education in the country.
The Minister said the PML would participate actively in the forthcoming local bodies' elections. He added PML had been made an active political force at grass roots level. He expressed hope that PML would win the elections keeping in-view of its performance and services to the nation.
Appreciating the role of NEFP people in the Pakistan movement, the Minister said Pakistan was created in the name of Islam and it would remain associated with its ideology.
Minister of State for Water and Power and PML NWFP President Engr Ameer Muqam speaking on the occasion said federal government was fully determined to resolving the problems of people and provide them all basic amenities of life to them. He said that on the issue of Kalabagh Dam some political parties including Awami National Party (ANP) were taking advantages by opposing that project of national importance. He said Kalabagh Dam and other such important projects were very vital for national economy and welfare of the people of the area.
Engr Ameer Muqam said efforts were being made to minimise line losses of Wapda to ensuring uninterrupted power supply to the consumers in the country. He said PML would be made a popular political force in the province with the active participation of its workers.
PML Secretary General Mushahid Hussain Syed on the occasion also announced Rs 20 million for development of Swabi district.
Earlier, former provincial minister Ghafoor Khan Jadoon, District Nazim Bunair SirZamin Khan, MNA Usman and Shamsher Khan also spoke on the occasion.
Later, the PML Secretary General Mushahid Hussain Syed along with Federal Minister Ijaz ul Haq Minister of State for Water and Power Engr Ameer Muqam inaugurated PML office Topi of Swabi district.
PML Additional Secretary General Iqbal Dar, PML Media Advisor Mustafa Malik and MPA Nighat Orakzai were also present on the occasion. Later, Ghafoor Khan Jadoon hosted a lunch in the honour of PML leaders.
