Federal Minister for Food, Agriculture and Livestock, Sikandar Hayat Khan Bosan, on Tuesday said a record number of development works have been implemented, particularly in agriculture sector under the leadership of President General Pervez Musharraf. He was speaking at the inauguration ceremony of a watercourse at Sangrar Minor here in Fakirabad village, Taluka Rohri.
Federal Minister for Industries, Production and Special initiatives, Jehangir Khah Tareen and Minister of state for Food, Agriculture and Livestock, Muhammad Ali Malkani were also present on the occasion.
The Federal Minister for Food, Agriculture and Livestock said four-year National Programme for Improvement of Watercourses will create over 4000 direct and 3,00,000 indirect job opportunities.
He said development of agriculture and health sectors and provision of potable water are among the priorities of the present government.
The minister said his ministry is purchasing over 10,000 duty-free tractors, which will be imported next month.
He said government paid Rs 3.8 billion as fertiliser subsidy last year. In view of rising demand of fertiliser government is importing over 5,00,000 tonne urea to facilitate the growers, he added.
The minister said efforts are also being made for the development of livestock sector.
He announced that at least 5000 tubewells will be installed through out the Sindh province.
