Initial work on Rs 735 million chair lift/cable car system and allied facilities project is expected to begin during the current fiscal year at Fort Monroe, the only hill station of Southern Punjab in D G Khan district. "PC-II of the project, involving Rs 25 million to start initial work, was in the process of finalisation.
It would be sent to the Planning and Development Department Punjab for approval within a few days", Tourism Development Corporation Punjab (TDCP) Regional Manager Multan Shoaib Ahmad told APP on Tuesday.
P&D and Finance Department would send the PC-II to the Chief Minister for final approval after its approval. The chair lift/cable car would begin from Khar, a small settlement/bazaar located at the foot of Fort Monroe and go up to Fort Monroe after a stopover at TDCP motel.
The project is yet another gesture showing government's commitment to develop South Punjab on priority.
"We hope things would move swiftly on the matter and initial work would begin some time in next fiscal year starting from July 1, officials said.
Fort Monroe hill station, located at an over 6,400 feet height, is about 185 kilometers from Multan and around 85 kilometers from Dera Ghazi Khan in Suleman Mountain Range. It attracts a number of tourists every year particularly those who wish to escape from hot plain areas of Southern Punjab to enjoy mild and pleasant weather for a day or two.
