Pakistan International Airlines will start operating another flight to China on Islamabad-Urumqi route twice a week by the middle of next month. According to sources at PIA, the airline had already set up its office in Urumqi, capital of Xinjiang autonomous region and is now making other necessary arrangements.
The PIA's fare on this route would be very competitive in order to facilitate the business community enhance trade between Pakistan and Xinjiang region, the sources added.
Sources told APP in Beijing that an agreement had already been signed to expand air links between the two countries. It enabled the Civil Aviation of China and PIA to increase their operation on Karachi-Islamabad, Beijing, Urumqi and Shanghai routes.
The two airlines had also concluded arrangements facilitating their passengers to travel between their various cities under a code-sharing system as well.
According to sources, a proposal was also under consideration to reduce the existing fare on this route. "This is imperative to achieve the target of enhancing social, cultural and business interactions between the two close neighbours," sources added.
