Fire fighters early morning on Sunday, after a six-hour long operation, finally succeeded in putting out a massive fire that broke out in a storage shed of Pakistan State Oil's lubricant manufacturing terminal. CDGK's Deputy Chief Fire Officer Naeem Yousuf told Business Recorder that the city fire service received the call at 12.05 am regarding the incident at Pakistan State Oil lubricant blending plant at Korangi.
The CDGK's fire station in Korangi immediately dispatched 2 fire tenders to the spot while afterwards more fire tenders were called from different government departments and other fire station of the city. During the operation four firemen received burn injuries.
The lubricant plant is situated near National Refinery in the proximity of Korangi industrial area. The fire incident occurred at about 10.45 pm on Saturday night.
Naeem said that the fire fighters managed to save the blending plant, two storage tanks and other facilities. The extent of losses could not be estimated at this stage.
Sources said that firework at a wedding might be a of the fire.
Help was also sought from Pakistan Navy, Pakistan Air Force, Karachi Port Trust, Civil Aviation Authority, Port Qasim Authority and Pakistan Refinery, and 39 fire tenders joined the extinguishing operation.
Due to immediate and professional work done at the site of fire by CDGK fire department needs appreciation.
Sindh Governor Dr Ishratul Ibad Khan has ordered investigation into the fire incident.
A PSO spokesman stated that managing director & Chief Executive Officer Jalees Ahmed Siddiqi, along with his team, on Saturday night visited the company's Lube manufacturing terminal.
Senior staff of the company also remained at the scene till the fire was brought fully under control.
The spokesman said that rehabilitation efforts have already commenced and the concerned technical and engineering staff of PSO is working round-the-clock.
The spokesman said that the extent of losses is being determined. The plant/equipment and PSO product are fully insured and relevant claims shall be lodged/ recovered accordingly as soon as extent of losses and damage has been determined.
