Sindh Governor Dr Ishratul Ibad has said that the government is making efforts for participation of community at every level, and positive and encouraging results of this process were emerging. He was speaking at a get-together of residents of Defence Housing Authority (DHA) on Sunday.
Ibad said crimes have been brought under control in various areas with the cooperation of police and the community and added that attention was being paid of introducing CPLC in other parts of the country.
The governor recalled that the great cooperation existed between police and people on the occasion of Ramazan-ul-Mubarak, Eid-ul-Fitr, Eid-u1-Azha, Muharram-ul-Haram and Rabi-ul-Awwal. Ibad said there had been record shopping on the occasion of last two Eids and people indulged in buying in markets and bazaars during day and night in a peaceful atmosphere and with a sense of security.
The Sindh governor pointed out that the way, the police thwarted the terrorist's act at Madinat-ul-Ilm by risking their own life, had brought a good name to the police department. This effort was also reflective of the steps and the protective measures taken for the security of life and property of people, he added.
Ibad told the gathering that in the Defence area many cases of mobile phone snatching and dacoities used to occur, which had been declined to zero-level in the month of June and success an this regard could be achieved due to the community's cooperation.
Dr Ibad said that taking one more step forward towards community cooperation a Consumer Rights Council is also being established at Governor House on the pattern of the CPLC.
He said this Council would take steps for the protection of rights of consumers, continuous monitoring of prices, quality of products besides regular research and monitoring.
Initially, the governor said, the council will function in Karachi as a pilot project and later its scope would be extended to entire Sindh.
Ibad referred to the problem of load shedding and said it was an important issue. However, it cannot be attended merely through slogan-raising but with efforts in the right direction and full attention is being paid in this respect.
The governor said supply of electricity in Karachi has become inadequate due to population explosion. He said a project of overcoming power shortage, which was to complete in 30 months, will now be completed in just 13 months.
The function was also addressed by Vice Chancellor Karachi University Dr Pirzada Qasim, IG Police Asad Jehangir, Managing Director SSGC Munawar Basir, Managing Director KESC Brig. Tariq Saddozai, President DHA Residents Association Javed Iqbal and others.
Adviser to Chief Minister for Local Government Waseem Akhtar, Information Adviser Salahuddin Haider and former chief justice of Pakistan Nazim Hussain Siddiqi were also present, among others, on the occasion.
