Ministry of Women Development has decided to establish governance structures at federal, provincial and district level to empower women and ensure gender equality. The key reform of the plan is the establishment of gender development sections in six strategic ministries - Finance, Labour, Law, P&D, Information and Establishment Division with gender expert and research officer.
According to the source, this plan would help to remove inequality between women and men in the different kinds of work and ensure access to opportunities and resources for women.
The source said that inter-ministerial Gender Mainstreaming Committee (GMC) would be established to monitor the progress on the plan.
The committee headed by the Minister for Women Development would include the Secretary and Joint Secretary of MoWD, six federal secretaries and provincial chief secretaries.
It is notable that an amount of Rs 300 million has been allocated to MoWD in 2005-2006 developmental budget.
