The government of NWFP on Wednesday formally received drugs consignment donated by the World Health Organisation (WHO) for flood affected people of the province. NWFP Minister for Health Inayatullah Khan received the drugs from Dr Khalif Bile Mohammed, the representative of the organisation in Peshawar.
Secretary Health Abdul Samad Khan, DG Health Dr Jalil ur Rehman, WHO Operations Officer Dr Saeed Akbar Khan, Emergency Medical Officer Dr Quaid Saeed, Technical Officer Behramand, EDO Health Peshawar Dr Mosam Khan and EDO Nowshera Dr Fawad Khan were present on the occasion.
The 'emergency drugs' donated by WHO will be handed over to the health authorities of the flood effected Districts of the province for onward distribution among the affected. The emergency health kits containing life saving drugs, antibiotics, IV infusions, disposable and medical instruments are capable of providing protection to 30,000 people from water-borne and other epidemic diseases for a period of 3 months.
The Health Minister on this occasion appreciated the efforts of WHO for providing relief to the flood affected people of the province in their hour of trial.
Later on, the health minister along with representative of the WHO and high-ups of the health departments, visited emergency camp at Tapokorona, Warsak road Peshawar to inspect on going relief activities in the district.
The Minister was informed that people of the area were being vaccinated properly to avert out break of epidemic diseases in the area. The Minister was told that nine mobiles teams were providing emergency services to the people of the district. EDO Health Peshawar on this occasion demanded further supply of emergency drugs to continue activities in proper manner.
