Ms Rooma Para, the content manager of Pakistan Industrial Information Network (IIN) has been elected as representatives of Business and Professional Women (BPW) International. She is the first Pakistani to be on the international executive board of the organisation' as Youth Representative for the next three years.
Her election was made at the 25th Congress of Business and Professional Women International (BPW International) recently held in Luzern, Switzerland.
The theme of this event was "New Dimensions of Leadership". More than 1200 women from around the world participated in this prestigious event. Top women leaders in the field of banking, politics, arts, IT and various other fields were present at there.
Mrs Salima R. Ahmed, President Business and Professional Women Association Pakistan chapter headed the country delegation.
Pakistan chapter also received award for its overall contribution and welfare activities that are focused to uplift the status of women especially for running projects like working women hostels, vocational training programmes, computer literacy and adult literacy programmes in different cities of the country.
BPW International has been working in more than 100 countries. It has consultative status with the United Nations Economic and Social Council (UNESCAP) as well as consultative status and special relations with International Labour Organisation (ILO) United Nations Industrial Development Organisation (UNIDO), United Nations Conference on Trade and Development (UNCTAD), World Health Organisation (WHO), United Nations Children Fund (Unicef), Food and Agriculture Organisation. (FAO), United Nation's Development Fund for Women (UNIFEM), International Fund for Agricultural Development' (IFAD).
BPW International maintains permanent representatives at the United Nations and its agencies in New York, Geneva, Paris and Vienna.
