Hamdard Assembly has termed the present privatisation policy of the government as anomalies and demanded of the government to make the process transparent besides keeping the national interest supreme. Hamdard Assembly (Shoura) demanded this in a monthly meeting held here with former Naval Chief Admiral Iftikhar Ahmed Sarohi in the chair.
The Assembly was addressed by various other intellectual from different shades of opinion. Hamdard Assembly is a think tank formed by founder of Hamdard, Hakeem Muhammad Said.
The think tank has asked the government to make sure the protection of the rights of employees at the time of privatisation of institutions. The privatisation should remain up to the sick industrial units, which are a liability on government exchequer, Assembly said adding that it is sad that profit earning institutions are being sold to earn commission.
"Country is already facing a menace of unemployment and poverty, which is demanding that job security of the employees should make sure when institutions would be privatised", said Admiral Sarohi, while addressing the Assembly.
Terming privatisation necessary at this juncture, he said that government should take parliament into confidence about the privatisation of institutions of national importance and disseminate information about the privatisation to general public.
Sarohi said that development without education remains a dream and government should take appropriate measures to introduce uniform curriculum in the country in order to make sure high standards of education. "Class less and uniform educational system would hell attain new horizons in science and technology", he added.
Poor educational standards are main reason that Pakistan has so far failed to produce a good breed of scientists and scholars, Sarohi said adding it is time to hold a strategy to enhance educational standards and introduce a uniform curriculum.
