Petronas, the National Oil Corporation of Malaysia awarded on Thursday scholarships to five Pakistani students from the remote areas of Ghotki and Shahdadkot in the province of Sindh. This would enable these students to pursue higher studies at the University Teknologi Petronas (UTP) in Malaysia.
The Malaysian Consul General to Karachi Long Rashid and Ghotki's Executive District Officer Education Asghar Mujahid Mahar at a ceremony here presented the scholarships to the students on Thursday.
The students will be flying off to Malaysia to join 10 other Pakistani students currently pursuing various engineering and technology degrees at the UTP.
The scholarships will cover tuition and accommodation fees and subsistence, books, computer and other related allowances.
Eligibility for the scholarship is based on students' excellent academic performance, strong leadership qualities, and active involvement in co-curricular activities.
It was pointed out that Petronas has so far sponsored 302 students from 16 countries including Pakistan to study at the UTP. As many as 10 students from Pakistan are currently studying at the UTP.
