Karachi residents have invited the urgent attention of the Prime Minister's committee on prices to take immediate notice of the uncalled for rise in the sugar prices in the open market up to Rs 30 per kilogram. It may be recalled here that only yesterday while reviewing the price situation of daily use commodities in the committee's meeting in Islamabad, PM's adviser on finance and revenue Dr Salman Shah said that prices were now under check.
During the meeting the view was expressed that prices were coming down including those of sugar while the fact being that the prices were going up especially of sugar.
The Karachiites have urged the special committee to take very drastic steps for improvement of the price situation in respect of sugar. Many people felt that the government should arrange at least two hundred trailers of the NLC and set up mobile sale-shops on these trailers in various cities including Karachi where the sugar be sold to the customers in order to defeat the designs of the hoarders.
