The top officer of the US naval base at Guantanamo Bay, Cuba has been removed from duty there, the US Navy said, stressing that the move was unrelated to "detainee operations." Captain Leslie McCoy was relieved of his duties as commanding officer (CO) of the naval base on Saturday after an investigation into allegations of inappropriate personnel and administrative management practices, the Navy said in a brief statement.
The detention site, where some 520 detainees from around the world - including suspected members of the al-Qaeda network and Afghanistan's Taleban - are being held is located at the naval base but under separate jurisdiction.
The detention camp is run by Brigadier General Jay Hood, in-charge of the site since April 2004.
