Punjab Health Minister Dr Tahir Ali Javed has said the government was providing all possible funds for research activities in the field of medical education; and co-operation of international donors would also be sought in that regard.
He expressed these views while addressing a meeting of academic council of King Edward Medical College (KEMC) University here on Monday. Principal Professor Dr Mumtaz Hussain, Board of Management (BoM) Acting Chairman Latif Malik, Additional Secretary Health Ahmad Bilal, Medical Superintendents (MSs) of affiliated hospitals and members of academia were also present in the meeting.
The Minister said present regime was working hard to develop and modernise the medical syllabi according to latest demands and requirements. The present regime has provided record budget of Rs 16 billion to the health department whereas KEMC has been upgraded to the medial university and Rs 1.25 billion have been provided to KEMC/Mayo Hospital for the current year's budget.
The meeting was informed that Cardiology Department of Mayo Hospital has completed more than 100 cardiac operations including 70 angioplasty cases free of cost since reactivation of Cardiac Department.
He said the helicopter service for the protection of lives of seriously injured persons would be launched in Lahore and a surgical tower would be constructed at a cost of Rs 380 million in Mayo Hospital and helipad would be constructed at surgical tower. The state-of-the-art surgical tower would have 300 beds & 16 operation theaters, he added.
