The provincial government has provided the two most modern Roti plants to Sialkot district jail, said district Jail Superintendent Muhammad Yousaf Ghouri. Taking to reporters here on Tuesday, he said both the plants could prepare roti for 2,500 persons within three and half-hour.
Under the special directions of the government, facilities of better food and health were being provided to the prisoners and weekly menu of the jail had been revised, he added.
The Jail Superintendent further said that prisoners were being taught religious education including Quran besides computer training in the jail. He disclosed that "Khush Akhlaqi week (morality week)" was being celebrated in all jails of the Punjab and series of programmes had been prepared in accordance with the week.
Ghouri disclosed that modern operation theater, dental laboratory and other health facilities had been ensured within the jail limits to the inmates while some philanthropists persons had promised to provide x-ray plant and ECG apparatus in near future.
The Jail Superintendent further said that all means and resources were being mobilised for making the inmates useful citizens of the society, adding special attention had been focused on providing maximum recreation and sports facilities to the inmates.
There were 2,460 prisoners in Sialkot district jail against the capacity of 662 inmates and the excess of prisoners was due to non-availability in Narowal district jail, he added.
Ghouri revealed that a handicraft training school had been set up in the jail for imparting necessary women folk.
The Jail Superintendent disclosed that after the Sialkot incident extra-ordinary precautionary measures had been taken ensuring the protection of inmates, adding that modern search and monitoring system had also adopted and 16 cameras had been installed at various points of the jail.
Later, the reporters along with Jail Superintendent and deputy superintendent jail Azhar Khan visited different areas including kitchen and roti plants of the jail.
