The Centre of English Language at Aga Khan University will host a two-day seminar on the theme 'Language, Culture and Identity: Issues and Challenges' on July 16-17, 2005, said a press release issued her, on Wednesday. Sindh Minister for Education and Literacy, Dr Hamida Khuhro, will be the chief guest on the occasion.
The prime objective of the seminar is to address issues related to culture and identity in learning a foreign or second language, such as English, and to provide English language teaching (ELT) to professionals, providing them opportunity to develop strategies for addressing relevant issues and emerging challenges in Pakistan in particular, and the region in general.
Sub-themes of the seminar range from English and employment, language and gender, assessment and evaluations, English for specific purposes, teacher education, information technology and ELT, to curriculum and material development, and research.
The seminar also includes a research symposium, which would critically reflect on the theme and sub-themes of the seminar from an Asian perspective to facilitate the process of undertaking research projects in pertinent areas, the statement added.-PR
