Sindh irrigation authorities, it seems, disciplined the angry Indus river as the peak flood is passing through Sukkur Barrage with a flow of 0.525 million ceusecs smoothly. However, all hands at Sukkur Barrage are under high alert and strict vigilance is being maintained.
Protective embankments including Aqil Aghani, KK, Qadirpur loop, and mud embankment are safe despite heavy floodwater pressure, while strengthening process and stone pitching is continuing.
General Officer Commanding Hyderabad Major General Muhammad Mustafa on Wednesday visited Indus River protective embankment at Bhanot about 30 kilometres from here to carry out complete assessment of the protective embankments.
The GOC, who was accompanied by the officers of the garrison and civil authorities, has directed the concerned authorities to adopt all protective measures to ensure safety of lives and properties of the people. He was of the opinion that at present there was no serious situation at Bhanot as water discharge at the spot is around 0.120 million cusecs.
Irrigation authorities briefed the GOC on the latest flood situation and informed him about the measures taken to meet the threat of impending flood.
