Karachi Electric Supply Corporation has advised its customers and general public to protect themselves and family members from electrical accidents and electrocution resulting in deaths, especially during rainy season.
A KESC spokesman said on Wednesday in a press release that TV cable operators have also been warned not to climb a pole for correcting their cable line, mostly running on electric poles, during the rains.
The general public is again being reminded of precautionary measures, which must be followed by them in order to save themselves from any unfortunate happening during the on-going monsoon rains.
IT RELEASED 'SAFETY PROCEDURE' THAT INCLUDES:
(1) WIRE BROKEN: Immediately inform nearest KESC centre, or 118, about a broken wire by phone or if the phone is busy lodge the complaint at the centre window for the purpose. The broken wire may be live and may cause fatal accident if the complaint centre is not timely informed.
(2) Don't go near or touch a broken wire.
(3) Don't use Kunda connection during rain.
(4) Keep away from electricity installations like electric poles, PMTs and Sub-Stations.
(5) Local generator users should be installed separately from KESC line. Some generator users hook their generators onto the KESC neutral wire, which becomes dangerous for the KESC staff working on the line in case of power failure.
(6) Keep away from the water accumulated during rains around electrical poles or other installations.
(7) Local switches on the poles for streetlights should not be touched during rains.
(8) In case one phase is off, do not jump over to the other phase.
The spokesman said that past history suggests that higher rate of fatal accidents during rains have happened in Kundas infested areas and amongst the illegal connection users. Hence, it is important that people, for their own safety, should remove these illegal connections before the rain starts.
He said that KESC has also undertaken tree pruning in areas where it was disturbing the overhead power supply lines.
Public is also requested that trees inside or outside their homes should be properly clipped so that the tree branches are not touching the electricity wires.
During rains wet trees also become good conductors and a cause of electrocution.
Lastly, don't tie your pets, goats or cows with an electrical pole.
Some people are also in the habit of tying their cycles and motorcycles with electrical poles. Avoid doing it during rains.-PR
