The euro failed to retain its firmness versus the rupee in the open market on Thursday, tracking the international market direction, losing 60 paisa for buying and selling at Rs 73.05 and Rs 73.20, respectively.
The single European currency tumbled in the world markets as the dollar rebounded versus the major currencies, dealers said.
The dollar held its firmness for several weeks in the overseas markets on hopes that the US trade deficit to come down in the coming days, currency dealers said.
The rupee did not budge versus the dollar for buying and selling at 60.45 and 60.50, they added.
INTER-BANK RATES: The rupee posted a gain of two paisa versus the dollar for buying and selling at 59.58 and 59.60 in modest trading, they said.

RUPEE IN LAHORE: The rupee failed to maintain its overnight position and registered loss of five-paisa in relation to the greenback in the local currency markets on Thursday.
According to the currency dealers, the dollar witnessed marginal increase in its demand, which depreciated the local currency. The dollar resumed trading at overnight closing rates of Rs 60.65 and Rs 60.75 on buying and selling counters, respectively. The greenback maintained its level during early hours of trading but following fresh buying it started improving and finally closed at Rs 60.70 and Rs 60.80 on buying and selling sides, respectively, the dealers added.
Similarly, the local currency remained under pressure and further lost its worth against the pound sterling. The British pound was purchased at Rs 106.60 and was sold at Rs 107.10 as compared to Rs 106.70 and Rs 107.00 of Wednesday, the dealers added.
RUPEE IN ISLAMABAD AND RAWALPINDI: The rupee-dollar parity remained unchanged at the open currency markets of Islamabad and Rawalpindi on Thursday.
The dollar opened at Rs 60.45 (buying) and Rs 60.55 (selling) against same last rate. It did not observe any further change in the evening spell and closed at Rs 60.45 (buying) and Rs 60.55 (selling).
Pound sterling opened at Rs 105.10 (buying) and Rs 105.20 (selling) against same last rate. It did not witness any further change and closed at Rs 105.10 (buying) and Rs 105.20 (selling).
