Former AJK premier and Opposition Leader in Legislative Assembly Sultan Mahmud Choudhry said that there could be no objection of India becoming the permanent member of the UN Security Council provided it concedes the right to self-determination of Kashmiris, and sort out the issue in according to UN resolutions.
Sultan stated this while addressing a dinner party that he hosted in the honour of the newly-elected members of the British parliament here in London.
Addressing the party, former AJK premier said: "Although India is a large country and also wants to become the permanent member of the UN Security Council, we have no objection on it, but first India should settle the Kashmir issue according to the UN resolutions."
Sultan appreciated the efforts of the newly-elected British parliamentarians for their support the cause of Kashmir, and hoped they would get British support for Indian claim of Security Council on the condition that India concedes the Kashmiris' right to self-determination.
He urged the British government to pressurise India for the peaceful and permanent solution to the Kashmir issue so that peace atmosphere could be prevailed in the whole South Asia.
On July 7 incident in London, Sultan said: "We strongly condemned this terrorist incident, and firmly believed that terrorists have no religion."
Later in the addressees, the newly-elected British parliamentarians have acknowledged the efforts of Sultan Mahmood for highlighting the Kashmir issue on world forums, and assured that they would definitely play their due role in the peaceful settlement of the Kashmir issue.
Former British ministers, including Lianam Byme, Jhon Speiler, Denis Macshane, Kitty Usher, Deputy Speaker Syiva Heal, parliament member Sian Simmon, member parliament and chairperson Kashmir committee, Margrette Morine, Andian Balley, Janet Dean, Johan Walley, Mark Fisher and several other parliamentarians participated in the dinner party.
