Alcatel said on Tuesday that its preliminary second quarter earnings would be "better than expected". Europe's second largest telecom equipment provider said that second quarter revenue was 3.14 billion euros, an increase of 8 percent over the same period last year and of around 10 percent at constant exchange rates.
"This higher than expected revenue growth resulted from a strong momentum in IP routing and optical transmission, mobile communications, and enterprise solutions," the statement said.
Second quarter operating margin amounted to slightly above 8 percent of revenues and diluted earnings per share (EPS) stood around 0.13 euros.
Second quarter results will be published on July 28.
