The attack was so severe that Professor Raza died on the spot, while his wife sustained serious wounded, however their all three daughters escaped unhurt.
The dead and the wounded woman were taken to civil hospital. The woman underwent a surgery and was admitted to the hospital for treatment.
On information of the incident, a large number of people gathered at the civil hospital and blocked Jinnah road in front of civil hospital in protest. As a result all the shops in the vicinity were closed down.
Angry people refused to take away the dead body of Professor Tahir. Shia Conference President Ashraf Zaidi, Allama Juma Asadi and other leaders held talks with DCO Quetta Rao Shakil and CCPO Salman Syed. They said the people belonging to Shia community were being targeted since 2003 and scores of people have been killed. Unless Chief Minister came to the hospital and assured them they would not take away the dead body of the professor.
