A faction of Hurriyat Conference, led by Mirwaiz Umer Farooq and Kashmiri Pandits on Tuesday held landmark maiden meeting as an exercise to initiate latter's return to Kashmir valley.
Around 26 Jammu-based Kashmiri Pandits leaders, including R L Bhan of All India Kashmiri Hindu Forum, P N Koul of Kashmiri Migrants Democratic Forum, Jeetendra Bakshi of Hindu Educational Society, Anil Dhar of Kashmiri Migrant Welfare Association, Desh Ratan Pandita of the All migrants Camps Co-ordination Committee arrived to a warm reception, accorded at the Hurriyat headquarters, said a news report.
Chairman Mirwaiz Umer Farooq, former Hurriyat chiefs Abdul Gani Bhat and Maulana Abbas Ansari and others greeted the Hindu leaders.
"The response has been good. It shows the urge of the Kashmiri Pandits to return to the valley," Maulana Abbas Ansari said.
The aim of the conference was to "re-establish communal harmony and composite culture of the valley that existed earlier, he added. The meeting was however boycotted by some organisations like Kashmir Samiti and Panun Kashmir.
Kashmiri Samiti and Panun Kashmir allegedly said in Delhi on Monday that no "established" group of Kashmiri Pandits had been invited and anyone from the community attending the talks would be doing so in their "individual capacity".
Senior Kashmiri leader Maulana Abbas Ansari said that the invitation was open to all Kashmiri Pandits and that no one had been "specifically" invited.
Jitendra Bakshi of Hindu Educational Society said, "there is a party, which is politicising a human problem. I don't think there will be anyone, who does not want to return to his home and hearth."
"Panun Kashmir has not sensed the background reality. If they are sincere about the welfare of Kashmiri Pandits they should come Srinagar and strive for their rights," said Desh Ratan Pandita of All Migrants Camps Co-ordination Committee said.
