The Amir of Jamaat-i-Islami, Sindh and leader of Muttahida Majlis-i-Ammal, Dr Mumtaz Ali Memon criticised the government's crackdown on religious seminaries and raids at various offices of newspapers and magazines in many cities across the country.
He said in a statement here on Wednesday that Islam is a religion of peace and there is no any place for terrorism in it. Those fanning sectarianism have no links with Islam because the religion preaches brotherhood, religious freedom and protection to minorities' rights.
He said that West has started a war against Muslims round the world which has no end and is a big conspiracy to destroy the Muslims. He further said that they destroyed Afghanistan and massacred thousands of Muslims in Iraq but were still blaming the Muslims as terrorists.
'After killing dozens of innocents in Wana, Waziristan now the government has turn to religious seminaries and the newspapers who highlight the importance of Jihad. The government is proving his loyalty to the US after stopping advertisements to the newspapers and raiding on Madrassahs,' he contended.
Mumtaz Memon also said that at this time the so-called NGOs who claim to be the champions of human rights are silent, which is questionable.
