Canada Trade Commissioner in Lahore Asma Farooq called on Senior Vice President Canada-Pakistan Technology Business Forum Rehmatullah Javed here on Wednesday, and discussed with him matters of mutual interest to promote trade and investment between the two countries. According to a spokesman of the Forum, she offered full assistance of Canadian High Commission to Pakistan.
Rehmatullah Javed informed the Trade Commissioner that during his recent visit to Canada he had invited Canadian businessmen to take advantage of the excellent opportunities for investment available in Pakistan.
He said that a Pak-Canadian Convention would be held in Toronto on August 20, 2005, which would be attended by a large number of businessmen.
He said the sole purpose of setting up Canada-Pakistan Technology Business Forum was to enhance liaison and co-operation between Pakistan and Canada in the fields of export, import, investment and transfer of technology.
Rehmatullah Javed informed the Canadian Trade official that decision to form an active trade body involving top businessmen from both the countries was long overdue as in the international market the share of Pakistan is very small as compared to its neighbouring countries.
He said that Canada-Pakistan Technology Business Forum would ensure dissemination of all business-related information to the concerned quarters in the larger interests of the economy of the country.
The Canada-Pakistan Technology Business Forum would also arrange seminar and workshops for the guidance of the businessmen of the two countries so that the two sides could get benefit from available opportunities, he added.
He also informed the Canadian official that a few days back the Canada-Pakistan Technology Business Forum had signed a Memorandum of Understanding with the Lahore Chamber of Commerce and Industry and it is going to sign such agreements with other chambers of the country in near future.
He said that after the signing of MoU, both the organisations, Lahore Chamber of Commerce ad Industry and Canada-Pakistan Technology Business Forum would take sector-specific solid measures to promote trade between Pakistan and Canada.
He said that the forum would make efforts to promote Technology, trade, and investment and business relationship among businessmen of the Trade and Industry of the two friendly countries.
The Canada-Pakistan Business and Technology Forum was formed during the international Conference on Canada's role in the sustainable Development of Asian and African Countries held in Toronto recently.
